I have been searching and researching for the last one week as to whether I should buy an iPad or iPad mini or not, and I finally bought an iPad yesterday with 64GB memory, and Wifi + 4G. I thought to put my reasons as to why I bought an iPad and whether you should buy an iPad or iPad mini or not. One of the main reasons for buying an iPad was convenience, it's extremely easy to carry an iPad and it has good battery life, which could range from 10 to 15 hours based upon usage. Since it's not possible to carry a laptop wherever you go, simply because it's much heavier as compared to an iPad. Another reason which makes laptops not a good portable device like mobile is poor battery life, at max, the last 3 hours, which is ridiculous in today's technology crazy world.
In short, the main reason to buy an iPad or iPad mini is
- Convenience, they are easy to carry.
- Good battery life - last more than 10 hours in single charging.
- Really good HD quality screen
- Decent screen size for browsing the web, playing videos, watching movies, and playing games
- Lots of iPad apps makes many things simple
- Can help in your baby's learning activities, lots of kids education iPad apps.
- I can tune my guitar, play a couple of chords on the piano without sitting on the piano.
- Reading books is easy
- Surfing net, while sleeping on the couch, I just love it.
So in short, it does make sense to buy an iPad or iPad mini, if you already own a laptop. if you don't own a desktop or laptop then better buy that first, because they are more useful than the iPad and the iPad can never replace a desktop or laptop, but they can work as an iPad in terms of watching movies and playing games.

Indeed, my only reason to buy laptop is increase battery time and couch surfing. For all entertainment, reading and gaming purpose, iPad is fantastic, but iPad sucks for writing activities except may be tweeting.
